Date:
Tuesday, February 21, 2017 - 6:30pm

Please Note: We will be in the Sharon Lawson Lecture Hall instead of our usual room.

KnoxBUG would like to welcome Joe Maloney back to the podium! His talk will be about TrueOS' recent adoption of OpenRC. Below is a list of some of the topics he will be covering in his talk.

  1. What is an RC system?

  2. A brief overview of how the FreeBSD boot process works.

  3. What motivated me to improve the boot process for TrueOS.

  4. A brief history of RC (rc.d), and OpenRC.

  5. How OpenRC is an evolution of RC (rc.d), and a drop in replacement for RC.

  6. What we did to integrate OpenRC into TrueOS.

  7. An overview of the OpenRC components in TrueOS.

  8. Improvements that were noticeable after integration.

  9. Future improvements we can make to TrueOS as a result of having OpenRC in base.

The location will once again be at the Blount County Library. We will be in the Sharon Lawson Lecture Hall. There should also be a sign directing people to the room in the hallway.
